Eight best third-placed teams advance. Their bracket placement depends on which groups they came from.

FIFA pre-defines the allocation. Once the group stage ends and the eight qualifying third-placed teams are identified, they drop into specific Round of 32 slots facing group winners. The system is built so the bracket shape stays constant regardless of which specific groups produce third-place qualifiers.

Third-placed teams don't get to choose their slot. They land where the predefined system puts them based on their group of origin. That means some third-placed qualifiers end up in more favorable quadrants than others purely based on which group they came from.
